Even though this item is factory reconditioned, it still comes with a 2 year limited warranty and tech support. Unpacking the unit was hassle-free and the cat5 networking cable was even pre-attached to the unit, saving one less step when setting up.
Set up was straightforward:
Connect the router to the modem
Plug the router into an electrical outlet
Install Belkin software on computer and follow on-screen instructions on setting up the router.
Now came the frustrating part.
After a few minutes of the software unsuccessfully trying to locate the router, I decided to connect the router directly to the computer which worked out fine. The Belkin setup software could now find the router and I proceeded to personalize the SSID and set a security key. So far so good, I was now surfing the internet. Unfortunately, after 10 minutes of web surfing, the router suddenly dropped the connection to the computer. After a minute or two, the computer reconnected to the router again and everything seemed normal.
This disconnect - reconnect continued for the next 45 minutes so I decided to connect the router directly to the computer with a cat5 ethernet cable again and restore the router to factory settings. I renamed the SSID and set up the security key. The router once again started disconnecting and reconnecting continuously. At this point I was a couple of hours into this and decided to throw in the towel. Sadly the router is now back in the box.
Some other points I should mention:
When setting up, the router was less than 6 feet away from my computer so range wouldn't be a cause for the disconnect issue.
Also, when trying to connect my iphone to the router, the phone saw the router and I could connect to it, but the router wouldn't transfer the internet signal to the phone for some reason.
And as others have stated, the router feels very light and flimsy.
There are no network indicator lights to show activity on each network port and there is no wireless printing capability.
All in all, I cannot recommend buying the Belkin Recertified Surf N300 Wireless N Router because of its unreliability.
